This saves companies time and money and frees up employees who would normally monitor equipment and undertake maintenance to work on higher-level tasks. The Internet of Things is rapidly transforming how we do business and live our daily lives. Sensor technologies and real-time data acquisition and analysis can track almost any aspect of what we do.

These sensors can monitor a range of factors including temperature and pressure in industrial systems, status of critical parts in machinery, patient vital signs, and use of water and electricity, among many, many other possibilities. Broadly speaking, they are internet-connected devices, so they each have an IP address. They range in complexity from autonomous vehicles that haul products around factory floors to simple sensors that monitor the temperature in buildings. They also include personal devices like fitness trackers that monitor the number of steps individuals take each day. To make that data useful it needs to be collected, processed, filtered and analyzed, each of which can be handled in a variety of ways.

If the irrigation system receives information about the weather from its internet connection, it can also know when it’s going to rain and decide not to water the crops when they’ll be watered by the rain anyways. Just as our senses allow us to collect information, sensors allow machines to make sense of their environments. To help clarify, I think it’s important to understand the benefits of connecting things to the internet. We’ve all seen these benefits with our smartphones, laptops, and tablets, but this is true for everything else too.


A computer network is a system in which multiple computers are connected to each other to share information and resources. Hardware, software, and related service offerings, both for radio access network and mobile transport, focusing on service providers. For small campuses or branch offices, converged deployments offer consistency in wireless and wired connections.

These features can include sensors that monitor for medical emergencies such as falls or seizures. Smart home technology applied in this way can provide users with more freedom and a higher quality of life. A smart home or automated home could be based on a platform or hubs that control smart devices and appliances. For instance, using Apple's HomeKit, manufacturers can have their home products and accessories controlled by an application in iOS devices such as the iPhone and the Apple Watch. This could be a dedicated app or iOS native applications such as Siri.

However, one downside is that many cables are required to form this kind of network. It might include personal computers, tablets, smartphones, printers, TVs and other devices. The use of public cloud also requires updates to security procedures to ensure continued safety and access. In a star network topology, all nodes are connected to a single, central hub and each node is indirectly connected through that hub. A bus network topology is when every network node is directly connected to a main cable.
